Oh, really? Cool. Will have to bump that up my TBR pile. It's listed on the back of Empire State as a recommended read, and Marco from Angry Robot raved about it when I originally pitched my novel.

I seem to have a number of NY-related titles in that pile (Winter's Tale, Veronica, The New York Trilogy), not to mention the US editions of Empire State!

Hi, Adam,

Glad you spotted Paul C's pick in his Best of the Year post - we get a bunch of writers, editors and artists to do daily guest posts through December selecting their faves from the year. By coincidence I was editing his one for the blog and spotted Empire State in there just as I was about to start the copy the Angry Robot crew had kindly chucked my way. Now about halfway through and loving it, top stuff.

I don't know if you've seen it before but I do an occasional feature called Director's Commentary, where the creator introduces the book a little then picks some pages or scenes and talks us through them, bit like the commentary on a DVD, so the readers get to hear about the book, see a little of it and get some insight into it from the creator. Started it with comics in mind but it is a loose, flexible format and we've used it for art books, animation and prose (Ann and Jeff VanderMeer did one for their recent, massive Weird collection that came out last month), basically a way of letting the creator talk about the work a little in their own words. Suspect our readers would enjoy Empire State and wondered if you fancied trying a Commentary in the New Year?

Okay, you have John Scalzi's Whatever to thank (and your post--oh and of course your fantastic story premise!), I just pre-ordered this on Amazon.com. At first I was going to pre-order for my Nook Color like I do for most books these days, but the cover art was so fraking awesome, I had a need to hold it in my hands!

End of December, although the US bookstore ordering system means that it still bears a January release date. However, it'll be available to ship on December 27th.

Oh, ask me how I feel in January and I'm sure I'll be back in edit mode! But I edited and revised three manuscripts in a row, which was a heck of a lot of work. Actually writing new material feels like a walk in the park!

Funny, though, I'm just the opposite re writing - after a month of NaNoWriMo, it's an utter joy to be going back to revising this manuscript!
